The Council would like to thank your Honourable Lt. Governor, Anita Neville for the lovely reception at the Governor House on May 23, 2024 in celebrating our 130th Anniversary 1894 – 2024. Our president, Brenda Buleziuk presented a gift of a water color print called “Fabric of Nation” to her.
A group of Canadian women returning from a Women’s Congress in Chicago in 1893 realized that much could be done if the women of Canada would pool their ideas, their efforts and their time, to improve conditions, especially those affecting women and children. Lady Ishbel Aberdeen consented to become the founder, organizer, and first president of National Council of Women of Canada. A mass meeting was held in Toronto, October 2, 1893, at which the National Council of Women of Canada was formed.
The Council of Women of Winnipeg, formerly known as the Winnipeg Council was organized on March 27 in 1894 at a meeting held in Holy Trinity School House and became one of the first local council in Canada.
